Marriage Ceremonies

This venue is licensed for the performance of civil marriage ceremonies. Unlike many other venues, we only book one ceremony per day.

The vaulted Entrance Hall, where the marriage ceremonies are performed, can comfortably take 50 or 60 guests seated, with room for up to 20 more standing. If the weather is fine, the bride and groom can choose to make their vows under the canopy of the Tudor porch, with guests seated or standing on the lawn. In this case, the number of guests can be increased up to 100.

The bride may arrive here up to an hour before the ceremony to get ready. Full bathroom facilities are available.

There is a pretty upstairs room, with full-length mirrors, where the bride may, if she wishes, change into her wedding clothes prior to making an entrance down the sweeping main staircase which leads to the Entrance Hall.

The package also includes services of a waitress to pour your after-ceremony drinks, candles to be lit during the ceremony, hire of a larder fridge for cooling your wine and hire of our garden furniture in case of fine weather.

Wedding receptions

We also offer afternoon wedding receptions (with a finishing time of 5pm) on Mondays to Saturdays.


Afternoon receptions - the 'Mini-Reception' (Monday to Saturday)

Boughton Monchelsea Place is not available for evening receptions, due to the fact that it is our family home. We do however offer a "mini-reception" where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a country house reception without the cost of a full day's hire. For not much more than the cost of a marriage ceremony you can hire the Reception Suite for the whole afternoon, from 12pm to 5pm inclusive. The bride and groom can marry here, then have their photographs, celebration drinks and a light afternoon meal - perhaps sandwiches or a finger buffet - or even a sit-down wedding breakfast, before going on to another venue or a parent's or friend's home for evening celebrations. The mini-reception package excludes catering but includes candles to be lit during the ceremony, hire of our larder fridge for cooling your drinks, hire of garden furniture in case of fine weather and hire of dining furniture. We can accommodate a maximum of 80 guests for a finger buffet, or a maximum of 50 for a served meal or fork buffet. Please note that, with the exception of bridesmaids, all reception guests must be at least 14 years old.

The Reception Suite

There are three reception rooms at your disposal - Drawing Room, Dining Room and Library - in addition to the Entrance Hall where the marriage ceremony takes place. They are all nicely furnished in country house style.

All of the reception rooms have open fireplaces; if the weather is cold on your wedding day we will happily light the fires for you.
